What Is We Were Here Together?
We Were Here Together is the 2019 third entry and the longest of the classics. It opens with both players walking side by side — the only game in the series that starts this way — before splitting you into separate wings of Castle Rock for the escape-room segments the series is known for.

How It Plays
The first hour has you cooperating in the same space, splitting tasks out loud in real time. After the split, the classic formula returns: separate rooms, partial information, walkie-talkie only. Many series fans consider its puzzle variety the strongest of the pre-2020 games, and its final act sets up story threads that Forever and later entries pick up.
Should You Play It Before We Were Here Tomorrow?
Only if the story hooks you: Tomorrow continues themes that Together set in motion, but you can play Tomorrow with zero series history and understand every puzzle. As of our October 2026 check it is heavily discounted on Steam, which makes it the best-value deep cut if you want more Castle Rock after Tomorrow.
